Straight off the bat, Jeff gives away a ton of great information right on his Hardgainer Project X site and gives you three awesome tips on specific actions you can do right now to gain weight and muscle. I have purchased most of Jeff’s programs in the past and have been completely satisfied with them. After getting Hardgainer Project X and working out using the specific principles and techniques that Jeff teaches, it’s good to see that he improves with every program that he puts out.

Jeff Anderson has been actively studying hardgainers for the past few years and has been detailing his findings and organizing them into principles. He tested out these principles on 6 hardgainers. He put them through a 12 week “test” that was the original Hardgainer Project X. Throughout the duration of the 12 weeks he watched and tweaked the program and the results at the end of the 12 weeks were mind blowing. He goes through the foods that you should and should not eat as well as nutrient timing, what to eat before and after training, diet before sleep to maximize growth and how to work out exactly how much calories, proteins and fats you need to be taking in order to skyrocket your results. All the diet principles are solid and Jeff backs up what he says with facts.

Jeff will also show you “carb cycling” and how to get maximum results when you combine this with your workout. It’s a bit confusing at the start how to implement this and a what specific times but it get easier after a few goes and man does it work.

Hardgainer Project X Workout

The workout is a breath of fresh air for hardgaining guys. Jeff does not believe that hardgainers should be working out for 5 days per week as they have a poor recovery ability and overworking will overload the body and prevent muscle growth.

You will be training 3 days per week and each session will be under 60 minutes, they usually average around 40 minutes per session. The Hardgainer Project X workout is mainly focused on using compound exercises with a twist. Jeff combines compound exercises with two principles called Neuromuscular Activation which uses supersets and other exercises to wake up the central nervous system and boosts your anabolic hormones.

The second principle is Neuromuscular bridging which is a technique called “rest pause” which is basically a special lifting and resting technique that you incorperate into your 5 sets times 5 reps heavy compound lifts. Then you will follow up with some high rep and low set isolated exercises.

Jeff also includes many other advanced type training exercises that really give you an awesome workout, he also includes a neat little trick that is completely different than what is usually preached by others and it gets amazing results. I won’t go into it here as it will take a bit too long explanation.

Now I must admit at first it was a bit confusing when I first started to workout using these principles even though you are given all the charts, workout logs and exercise descriptions and pictures. I think it was because the workout uses so many amazing techniques it overwhelmed me for the first few workouts but after that they became a habit and I really enjoyed and looked forward to working out.

Hardgainer Project X Supplement Advice

The supplement section is very interesting. Firstly Jeff basically only recommends taking a whey protein but then he goes on and lists other supplements that you could take if you wanted to get even better results but they are not mandatory. Supplements he mentions are creatine, glutamine, digestive enzymes (awesome, I now take these daily with every meal, they make a big difference), multivitamins, branch chain amino acids and a few more. Jeff does not recommend any brand names at all and actually tells you to stay away from them. He lets you know how you can get all supplements for literally next to nothing and this in itself will save you a bucket load of money.

The Best Parts…

It’s actually pretty hard to isolate any part of the Hardgainer Project X system as it’s just such an amazing program but here goes. The best parts for me were the Hardgainer Project X Workout which was unique and different but very effective and absolutely ideal for skinny guys who struggle to put on weight. The diet principles were outstanding as well and were all laid out in detail and made a lot of sense and were easy to implement straight away. I love the way Jeff teaches and how the guide is organized so that all the key points are highlighted.

One thing which I always appreciate is when the exercises in workouts can be tailored to your individual needs. I usually workout at home and it was great to see that for any one exercise I could choose multiple ways of doing it. So if I didn’t have a piece of equipment then I could just substitute for another.

If I had To Complain…

The only thing that I could complain about Hardgainer Project X is the exercise manual. It’s only a minor inconvenience but a few of the pictures didn’t clearly illustrate the exercise in the detail that I would have liked and I think a few people would be a bit annoyed at this. Apart from this the system totally rocks.

The Wrap Up

Overall, the whole Hardgainer Project X system is amazingly good. It combines everything that a hardgainer would ever need to kick start his anabolic system, over ride any genetic limitations and gain weight and muscle like never before. So if you are a skinny guy who wants to finally gain some much needed weight and then build up your muscle then this is the only program you should invest in.
